Cultivated Areas Expanded in Kazakhstan in the 2023 Agricultural Season: Grain Harvest at Record High, Wheat Exports Increase

According to information provided to the press by the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, the total area under cultivation of agricultural crops in 2023 increased by 652 thousand hectares compared to 2022 and amounted to 24.0 million hectares. It was reported that grain was planted on 17.1 million hectares of this area. As of November 21, it was announced that the grain harvest is nearing completion in all regions of Kazakhstan. According to state governorates, 16.5 million tons of grain was harvested on 16.9 million hectares with an average yield of 9.7 quintals/hectare. Of this, 11.5 million tons of wheat was harvested from 13.5 million hectares with a yield of 8.5 quintals/hectare. In the first eight months of 2023, Kazakhstan’s wheat exports amounted to $1.36 billion. This is 23% more than last year and the highest level for the eight-month period since at least 2011.
